The Salvation Bracelet

This is a salvation bracelet.  Blessed by the children’s prayers of New Hope Coban.

The bracelet as a whole symbolized the world.

Green – our journey here on earth

Black – our heart before we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior

Heart – Jesus Christ heart that he gave for us

White – our heart cleansed and pure after we accept “him” as our Lord and Savior

Gold – the highest level of enlightenment, heaven

The note attached was from a beautiful girl I met on a plane, Karlee.  A stranger that would soon become a friend…

I had 2 flights to catch that day coming back into the country with a connection in TX.  I was reading The Power of Habit, Chapter 5, and it talked about how Starbucks’s training program saved an employees life, Travis.  The chapter explains the physical ailments and the lifestyle of Travis’s parents who were heroin addicts and how it affected his childhood and adult career.  Starbucks training and education program changed his life by teaching him how to live, focus, and master his emotions.  This story would lead to his promotion over time to upper management and eventually running his very own Starbucks.  This chapter couldn’t prepare me for what was next.  Coincidence?  Sign?  You decide.

I stopped at the end of that chapter and switched planes in Texas.

As soon as I sat down I overheard the young girl speaking on the phone just two seats beside me.  She was almost to tears and from what I could gather speaking to a close friend explaining how she missed them and could not wait to be home.  She explained how the feeling was surreal that she was going home and was ready to see her family and friends.

(I got excited because I thought that maybe just like me she was returning home to see her family after traveling abroad somewhere.)

After she wrapped up her conversation over the phone I chimed in, ” I’m sorry but I could not help to hear your conversation and I was just wondering if you were traveling overseas somewhere?  I’m just getting back from Guatemala and I can’t wait to see my family and friends!”

She looked at me with a sadness in her eyes and replied a soft and short,” No, I’m coming back from treatment.”

I immediately felt embarrassed for asking and being so naive but I rolled with the conversation anyways.  I apologized.  She assured me it was ok and then asked about my trip to Guatemala.  I happily changed the subject and told her about my recent volunteer work abroad and all the beautiful children and people I met and came to love there.

At some point we exchanged names and she opened up explaining her story.  She said she had been kicked out of the treatment center she was in and was on her way home to visit with her family and friends.

Karlee was a heroin addict but you couldn’t tell just from outward appearance.

Side note:  I’m don’t like for anyone to be sad around me and I will do whatever it takes to put a smile on their face.  I began focusing on the positives of her treatment, the good that came out of it.

Karlee and I talked the whole flight which was two hours.  We played pranks on the flight attendant and enjoyed a good laugh.  We talked about music, life, places we have traveled.  We talked and talked and talked some more.

At the end of our flight I wanted to give Karlee something very special and dear to me.  The bracelet pictured above.

I was given 2 extra bracelets from the parents of the children’s home I was at in Guatemala.  The told me God would speak to me when the time was right on who I should share these gifts with.

Karlee was one.  I gave her this bracelet and told her that if she ever gets scared or sad to squeeze that bracelet and know that the children’s prayers are protecting her.  “Everything will be alright,” I told her.  I witnessed to her and I will never forget how special that moment was.

Two months later I received the message above.

I can’t explain how Guatemala changed me because no one really understands.  The children’s home I resided at for 3 months was the closest to heaven I have ever been.  The children are pure and good and full of light and love, God’s love.  They taught me so much that I now have to share with the world.

Continue your journey by showing God’s love which is eternal.  It’s focusing on the light.  It’s helping others in any capacity.  It’s love.

I Believe:

I believe in signs.  I believe in the supernatural spiritual realm.  I believe in God. I believe in energy.  I believe in the laws of attraction.  I believe in the good in people.  I believe in love.  I believe in focusing on the light.

I believe we are all angels.  I believe heaven is a state of mind and can exist in the here and now.   I believe God is everything and in us all.

I believe.  Do you?

Vulnerability is Love

I think this word we all as humans try to shield ourself from. It’s exposure to who you really are. It’s exposure to your true feelings and emotion.

I am guilty of shielding my heart from pain and protecting myself. It’s normal we think…

Life is not about protecting yourself though. Life is living in the moment. Life is breaking down those barriers and really exposing your true self to others without the fear of rejection.

Rejection. Another word that we shield ourselves from. No one likes to be rejected. Isn’t it better though to be rejected for who you are then to hide behind someone you aren’t?

I feel the most vulnerable when I sing. I know I have a great voice and to me singing is therapeutic and a way for me to talk with God but I don’t do it in front of others because of fear. Fear of rejection. Fear of being vulnerable.

These two words vulnerability and rejection… they are something we all deal with on a daily basis. We can overcome these imaginary emotions through self love and respect and living honestly. Living who you really are.

Laying out by the pool yesterday a girl shamelessly took a selfie and I thought, “good for her”. I respect shameless selfies. I don’t respect the ones that try to hide it or that do the selfie from the side pretending that someone else took it. You know? I mean if you’re going to do a selfie do it with no shame and own it. Own that selfie. Smile really big and love yourself. 🙂

Love yourself and be proud of who you really are. Self acceptance is the first step. We were all made perfectly unique. One of a kind. Isn’t that something to celebrate?

Be fearless. Be happy. Be you.

3 steps to a happier YOU

In order to welcome LOVE into your life you have to be where you want to be. You need to find security and happiness within before you can find happiness with another person.

I found, personally, that once I started focusing on myself and my goals everything fell into place effortlessly. I changed my motivation in life from money to passion and this kick started a positive transformation that overflowed into all areas of my life.

If you want to know the secret it’s simple. Start with your thoughts. The mind is a powerful tool. Changing your thoughts will change your world. If you are unhappy with where you are follow these steps to get back on track.

1) Make your motivation PASSION not money

Putting money first leads you into salvery. Most likely you will end up working for someone else’s vision and passion… not yours. You will not be living your full potential and you will not be fulfilled.

Figure out what you’re passionate about then turn it into work then figure out how to help others and wahlaa that’s the secret sauce to finding happiness. You will be living a life of purpose and passion. It’s way more gratifying than a large paycheck.

2) Change your thoughts

Happiness starts with your thoughts. Sounds simple but this is the hardest part. Once achieved it is the foundation to leading a healthier and happier life.

Start becoming aware of your inner thoughts and write them down. Like what you see… I doubt you will. Your mind has been conditioned by the environment your were raised in and what you have allowed into your life since you reached adulthood. Being happy is work. You have to create a new pattern of routine. Writing down each day one thing you are grateful for. Going to bed with a happy thought. Focusing only on what you can control starting with your attitude towards people and life. To build a new habit takes approximately 22 days. Get to work.

3) Love

Love others for who they are. You can’t change anyone around you. You can lead by example though. Be careful who you surround yourself with because that is what you will become. You also have to learn to love yourself first. I hear people voice their weaknesses and downfalls and its horrible. Don’t put yourself down. Focus on what you like about yourself. If you can’t think of anything you like start building a new you with traits and characteristics that you admire in others.

This is a daily discipline that you have to implement everyday. The beginning is the hardest part… just like riding a bike. It get’s easier.

The human potential movement is here. Welcome aboard.

Wings of Spirit

I spotted an angel off the coast of Belize on a boat heading back towards Guatemala…

I was in Belize enjoying the annual Lobster Fest with friends. After the weekend came to a close we packed up and headed back to Guatemala by boat. The seas were really rough and a few times I got scared. I closed my eyes and prayed to God that he would see a safe return for us. I looked out over the ocean and spotted a black dot flying over the waves heading in the same direction as our boat against the wind. I strained my eyes trying to figure out what this black dot was. Was it a bird? No, it was too small to be a bird… I looked once more as it came a little closer and I could not believe my eyes. It was a black butterfly.

How majestic. How brave. How beautiful and symbolic of the beauty and strength of mother nature and life on this planet. What are the chances you ever get to witness this picture of strength from something so fragile. One butterfly in the middle of the ocean. Tears filled my eyes because I knew deep down that butterfly was a sign from God. A guardian angel, a vision of hope. That butterfly meant so much to me signifying strength, courage, beauty, and perseverance.

I followed the butterfly with my eyes until it disappeared in to the sun. Whether it flew off on a different course or literally dissapeared will always be a mystery. I will never forget this memory though. It is saved in my treasure box forever.

Strive to be like this butterfly/angel. Spread hope and inspiration everywhere you go. Do not be afraid to go on your journey alone because God is with you. Enlighten and uplift others you meet along the way.

Follow your dreams and choose to see and focus on all the miracles and beauty of life.

Love the life you lead and be the change you wish to see.

Here´s to the ¨Women¨ who travel SOLO

It takes a strong woman. One who knows fear is just an illusion. Reasons to go against your dreams are just excuses. She will risk everything to never lose that excitement and passion for life, to live… really LIVE!

I sold all of my stuff to go volunteer at a children´s home in Guatemala. On my journey to get my passport stamped in Belize I met a young beautiful girl from Arkansas on a boat ride. She was in Belize studying abroad for 3 weeks at an organic farm. She said 3 weeks wasn´t long enough for her so she decided to lengthen her trip and backpack across Guatemala with no set plans. Started in Tikal, then to Antigua, Lake Atitlan, and back. She said everyone told her not to do it. They said it would be dangerous and she shouldn´t go alone. I told her they told me the same thing. Truth is people are nice. The world is beautiful. There is so much to see and traveling alone could be the best experience of your life! I applaud the ladies that are fearless and are full of adventure and spirit. Those are the women I resonate with. The free spirits. The souls that can’t be confined. The women who are open minded. Respect other cultures and want to learn about the world.

Speaking to the young girl she explained how she hadn´t realized how big the world is. Now that she had a taste of freedom and saw how easy it was to travel she had plans to continue after graduation. She said she would go teach English in Spain. (She met a hot Spanish guy that she wanted to reconnect with ;)) Then maybe join a crew on a sailboat and sail across the Atlantic. She was implementing her dreams into goals and aspirations.

Ladies… and gentlemen. YOU CAN DO IT!

What are you waiting for? GO explore the unknown. Volunteer abroad and experience a new culture while receiving fulfillment in helping others along the way. <—–is amazing and free accommodations and ratings. Just do it.

I´ve never felt more alive. I´ve never been so grateful for life. God was very happy when he created this world we live in. GO explore it. Tomorrow is never promised and yesterday is gone. LIVE FOR TODAY. LIVE A LIFE OF PASSION AND PURPOSE.
